US Open Bleats

It wouldn't be the US Open if the players weren't complaining about something. This year, they're whining about having to start one of their two weekday (Thursday and Friday) rounds on the 10th tee.

And for good reason. The 1st, 2nd and 4th holes at Bethpage Black are birdie holes. The 10th, 11th and 12th holes at Bethpage Black are killers. A professional who is two-under par after 4 holes is a happy fella. A professional who is 2-over par after three holes is a psychological disaster area.

But that's what we want. It's not what the pros would like, but who cares? The whole point of the US Open is to bring grown men weeping to their knees. We want them to be two-over after three. We want them to suffer. It's cruel, but it's true.
