Obama's Veep Choice.

Senator Obama has three baskets to choose from.

Basket #1: pick someone who can deliver a state that is close or that he would otherwise not win. Examples: Governor Rendell of Pennsylvania or Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana.

Basket #2: the Cheney option; pick someone whose years of experience in Washington bring comfort to those of us who are nervous about Senator Obama's lack thereof. Examples: former Senators Sam Nunn and David Boren.

Basket #3: the military option. Choose a senior military figure to reassure those of us who are nervous about Senator Obama's instincts on issues of national security. Examples: Generals Wesley Clark and Jim Jones.

The Cheney option is probably the wisest course.
