The Senator From Merrill Lynch

Harold Ford has decided not to seek the New York State Democratic Party nomination for US Senate. Why? In a New York Times op-ed piece, Mr. Ford explains his decision as follows: He would have to run a negative campaign against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (because she would run a highly negative campaign against him), which, in turn, might enable the Republican US Senate nominee to win the general election. To insure that this does not happen, Harold Ford is standing down, even though he is, and there's no other way to put it, the man.
